Practical life
lays the foundation for all other work to be done in the classroom. The
activities are everyday tasks that a child learns, to master the care
of self and the care of the environment. This helps the child in such a
way that concentration, coordination, independence and order are
developed.
Examples:
punch outs (pre-writing excercise), pouring, tracing, sorting, sewing,
and many more motor activities.
SENSORIAL
The goal is to
educate a child's senses. These materials help the child refine sight,
sound, touch, taste and smell. In addition, these materials are modeled
on scientifically based concepts such as the metric system, dimensions
and algebraic formulas.
Math is
separated into major categories: beginning counting, advanced counting,
the decimal system, rational numbers (fractions) and the operation of
addition, multiplication, subtraction and division.
The central
purpose of the math materials in the early years is to lay a foundation
for later cognitive development and to prepare for the gradual
transition from the concrete to the abstract.
Examples:
spindle boxe (counting numbers 1 to 10), teen board, ten board, decimal
system, forty five layout, hundred board, addition, multiplication,
subtraction, division, fractions.
LANGUAGE
Montessori
curriculum is an integrated approach that combines phonetics and whole
language (high frequency words). Language is taught through a variety
of multi sensory activities: visual, auditory, tactile and kinesthetic.
The child learns the sound individually with
"Three period lessons". When he recognizes all the sounds, he begins
the process of blending and building words and starts reading. Language

that instill a lifelong love of science, history, culture, art, music
and movement.

Geography: Children learn to recognize the seven continents, planets,
and land forms by color and shape.
History: Children explore the basic history, famous people, presidents
and holidays around the world.

Spanish Maria
Montessori believed that the best time in a child’s life to learn a second,
third, or fourth language is in the preschool and kindergarten years, “the
absorbent mind” stage of human development.
At the Academy of
Montessori
International, Spanish is taught as an immersion program. Spanish is not only learned in Spanish
class, but throughout the day as well. We sing, hold classroom conversations,
and give classroom directives in Spanish.
